Crossrail, Europe’s largest infrastructure project, will provide a vital link across the capital with over 100km of track. Set to be operational at the end of 2018, the Elizabeth Line as it will be known runs from Reading in the West to Shenfield in the East. In addition to ten new stations a significant number of stations are to be modernized to accept the new trains and to provide new facilities for passengers. Emico was appointed as designer and installer of mechanical, electrical and fire systems on thirteen stations from Slough to Maidenhead.Open Gallery
A multi-site project combined with working on live operational infrastructure and limited access to the track presents many issues to overcome. When combined with working with the public on operational stations, this becomes a major challenge. Emico has provided design solutions which are buildable – early collaboration with our client Taylor Woodrow has ensured that we carry out only those surveys required to complete the design. Buildability in a live station environment is a key issue – maintaining operation of the station and the safety of the travelling public whilst ensuring new systems are implemented.
Emico was able to deliver the works in collaboration with Taylor Woodrow without impact on rail operations. The work included upgrading of DNO supplies, installing platform and building LED lighting, integrating the fire alarm systems and most importantly for the rail travellers providing new customer information systems.
Recognition and the acknowledgment from Taylor Woodrow:
I wish to express my gratitude to all involved in achieving a successful completion to the Crossrail West Stations project.
In supporting Taylor Woodrow you faced and overcame many and diverse challenges over a sustained period of great effort to deliver high quality asset deliverables for our Client Network Rail; and ultimately Crossrail’s Elizabeth Line. For many of you this was a long sub-contract package of works, and I am proud to have shared the latter stages with you. I appreciate the level of change experienced by all was a challenge; and your resilience shone through in the end, so it is a very big thank you and well done from me!
I certainly think this was a project we should feel proud to have delivered, and one which I hope will lead to further opportunity for all in the Enhanced Stations contracts Taylor Woodrow are in the process of bidding for. Please pass my thanks and recognition on to the many others in your teams who contributed to our joint-success. Thank you, and I wish you all success in your future projects.

"Emico have integrated fully with our Civils Delivery team from tender stage, assisting us to plan and phase our works efficiently whilst reducing the need for us to engage separate M&E management staff. They have collaboratively become part of our Management team and have embraced our safety, Value Engineering and innovation initiatives. Collocating their management team with ours has proved to be an extremely beneficial move which has ensured a hassle free delivery of the M&E scope to date."
