Expected to be fully operational in 2019, Crossrail will provide a new rail link, East to West across London. On its journey from East to West, the line leaves the existing surface railway and burrows under the Thames for its journey towards central London, at Victoria Dock Portal. Just to the north of ExCel London, the site is a narrow strip of land, between the Docklands Light Railway line and a residential estate. Such a tight space, and limits on noise to protect the local residents, meant its construction presented some logistical challenges. Emico was tasked with significant elements of the infrastructure, including electrical, mechanical, fire safety and communications.Open Gallery
At Emico, we pride ourselves on our flexibility, and willingness to be innovative with working arrangements, so we knew we could work around the restrictions on noise and out of hours working. Late design changes were also a factor of this project, but by providing extra operatives, we met our client’s needs. Emico’s credentials as experts on railway projects speak for themselves, and our knowledge in this field came to the fore again. In addition to the construction of plant rooms, Emico provided the LV systems, mechanical and public health services as well as fire detection systems and a Scada communications system.
A challenging worksite, late design changes and restrictions on noise and working hours made this project an interesting prospect. At Emico, we have the skill and experience to take on such challenges, we delivered “right first time” and we left our client fully satisfied.
