Stratford, in East London, is a symbol of regeneration following its key part in the London Olympics. Known as “East London’s Town Centre”, Stratford has seen huge changes in recent years. Once a centre for railway works and heavy industry, the district is now home to the Olympic Park and Stadium. Stratford Station is maintained by TfL and serves Network Rail, London Overground, London Underground and the Docklands Light Railway. Emico were chosen as the specialist contractor to design, install and deliver the upgrade of the mechanical and electrical services, ensuring that all station supplies were maintained and there were no services outages.Open Gallery
Emico started this extensive project by preparing detailed, co-ordinated designs for the multitude of services, to the varied expectations of the many stakeholders; the Olympic Delivery Authority, Network Rail, the Train Operating Companies, LUL, Westfield and Hochtief. We then protected the integrity of the supply to the station during the removal of the existing 6.6kV system, and installation of the new 11kV system. We addressed inherent issues, like a lack of as-built information, and multiple cross-phasing. Emico integrated and triangulated the new National Rail fire alarm system with the existing London Underground system, and the new Westfield system.
We installed new lighting within old canopy infrastructure, to exacting architectural aesthetic standards. We handled liaison with the Train Operating Company and National Rail when migrating supplies, and upgrading the station supervisor’s office, and the station control point. During the first year on site, we strengthened and enhanced the power infrastructure, with new cabling being installed to facilitate the additional loads. This required the installation of a new transformer, together with all the associated protection studies.

"Your installation at Stratford reflects the high standard Emico have achieved on previous LU projects." Neville Phaure, Project Engineer E&M, Network Rail Stratford 2012 Projects. “Without your immediate response, as you did, the project would have suffered and no doubt the team will remember the good work you have done to help NR achieve its project goals. I shall recommend your company should we need similar assistance in future." Robert Olweny, Commercial Manager, Network Rail Stratford 2012 Programme..
